Below is a visualization and description of some of the most significant incidents of political violence in Nigeria from July 31 to August 6, 2021. This update also represents violence related to Boko Haram in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. These incidents will be included in the Nigeria Security Tracker.

 

 

  • July 31: Police officers killed two attackers during an assault on a police station in Njaba, Imo.
  • July 31: Sectarian violence led to thirteen deaths in Bassa, Plateau.
  • July 31: Security operatives killed one kidnapper in Olamboro, Kogi.
  • July 31: Political violence led to one death during the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti.
  • August 1: Gunmen killed five in Orlu, Imo.
  • August 1: Sectarian violence led to twelve deaths in Riyom, Plateau.
  • August 1: Gunmen killed a pastor at a church in Kosofe, Lagos.
  • August 2: Police officers killed three kidnappers during a rescue operation in Makurdi, Benue.
  • August 2: Bandits killed twenty-five in Kauru, Kaduna.
  • August 2: The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) killed seventy-eight bandits in Maru, Zamfara.
  • August 2: The NAF killed "scores" (estimated at forty) of Boko Haram militants in Gubio, Borno.
  • August 3: A communal clash led to seven deaths in Egbado North, Ogun.
  • August 3: Bandits kidnapped eight in Suleja, Niger State.
  • August 3: Local hunters killed twenty bandits in Shiroro, Niger State.
  • August 4: Bandits kidnapped eight in Zurmi, Zamfara.
  • August 4: Boko Haram killed twenty-four Chadian soldiers in Tchoukou Telia island, Lake Chad.
  • August 4: Police officers killed one kidnapper in Logo, Benue.
  • August 5: Robbers killed one police officer and one other during a bank robbery in Boripe, Osun.
  • August 5: One police officer and three attackers were killed during an assault on a police station in Orsu, Imo.
  • August 6: Gunmen killed one and kidnapped two in Ido/Osi, Ekiti.
